Just give me some additions I can add to a list, or be debated in here.
Some I'd like to see are...
Topic reply emails / topic creation emails (fora specific)
Image upload capability
Ability to quote a user with automatic bold tag insertion
I can't think of any more right now, but I'm sure I'll come up with some later.
avatars for easier identification maybe?
and two rows of links on the front page... I hate having to scroll to find the topic i'm looking for...
Identifying images for topics as well to maybe?
I think it would be good to break away from barbelith a bit at this point...
Just seen someone's mentioned this on Barbelith, I was going to say something but I forgot. I'm really not keen on the idea of avatars.
In my experience, boards with a lot of in-built image content tend to place less emphasis on the words within. Obviously I can't prove causality here but if we wanted to continue with the attempt to make this a platform for serious discussion, it may be better to shy away from that kind of thing, and keep words central to the form and function of the site.
I would love it if we could have an automatic thingie to quote people in bold though.
I don't think I'm too keen on avatars, really - I can see that they make it a bit easier to scan over a page and get a quick sense of who's saying what, but I don't really like the way they look. And we would have to think of guidelines for the sort of images that would be acceptable as avatars.
My HTML skills are kind of shoddy, so it would be nice if there was an easy way to do the kind of things that I'm likely to want to do on a regular-ish basis - quoting people, posting links, maybe putting pictures up. The ability to upload images would be nice, too. That would deal with the problem of having loads of broken images in old threads, right?
I noticed that at the moment we don't seem to have any kind of 'previously known as' bit when someone changes their name - that could get quite confusing, I would imagine. It would also be great if we could have a list somewhere of users active in the last few minutes, if that's possible.
